Ideas on social culture
Personification of the world. We are deeply social animals, we see the world as characters in motion. Objective scientific view of the world is very new, 500 years. Since the enlightenment? Protestantism?
Wise king/tyrant. Each society is an amalgamation of both. Every hierarchy is threatened by it’s own shadow. Does the shadow come before?
Culture is the creation of the dead. Human systems naturally tilt towards blindness, corruption and destruction. Entropy? You must attend to the things which you do not want to lose.
£30k p/a puts you in the top 1% of earners worldwide. Most large companies only last approx 30 years. Most family fortunes last three generations. Single total life span.
Ritual killing of politicians every four years. Democracy is not a utopian system. Sometimes you need compassionate people at the helm and sometimes you need dreadfully tough minded people at the helm. Sometimes you need to listen to someone who’s anxious and nervous and sometimes you need to listen to someone who’s confident and secure. The tide changes every day.
The monarchy is the symbolic head of British society. Every culture has plenty to be ashamed of but not every culture has something to be proud of.
Democracy is imperfect, relatively balanced, produces inequality (like every other social system on the planet ever). But democracy gives people a genuine chance to some degree.
Historical proportion. Perspective. Gratitude.
History is a nightmare. We’ve struggled forward to some degree and we’re getting better at it. Slowly uphill, but nevertheless uphill.
